DOING OUR BIT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Declaration of REACH Substances of Very High Concern

Regulation No 1907/2006 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) entered into force on June 1, 2007. The EU REACH Regulation has been brought into UK law as of 1 January 2021 under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018. The new regime in the UK is known as ‘UK REACH’. Under UK REACH, companies operating in the UK face certain obligations as manufacturers, importers and/or suppliers.  One of the key requirements is the duty to communicate information on substances in articles (Article 33).

Article 33: Information for Recipients & Customers

Article 33 of REACH requires suppliers to inform recipients and respond to consumer enquiries if an article contains more than 0.1% (by weight) of a substance of very high concern (SVHC) which is on the SVHC candidate list published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

In accordance with the requirements of REACH and to allow safe use of the product, JTI hereby informs you of the presence of the following SVHC contained in Ploom devices and wall adaptors in concentrations above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w):

Substance 2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholinopropan-1-one

Cas no. 71868-10-5

EC no. 400-600-6

Individual article affected and their application

The printed circuit board (PCB) inside the vibration motor of Ploom S device has a solder resist which contains the SVHC used as photoinitiator to avoid short circuit.

Safe use information

1. No exposure to the substance is expected due to its inclusion within PCB which is used inside a vibration motor inside Ploom S.

2. In accordance with the European WEEE Directive Ploom S should not be disposed of with other household waste at the end of their working life. Please see WEEE instructions supplied with the product on correct disposal channels.

Substance Lead

Cas no. 7439-92-1

EC no. 231-100-4

Individual article affected and their application

Studs, transistors, diodes and thermistors of the Ploom X and Ploom X Advanced devices.

Plugs and diodes of Ploom wall adaptor model WA-JSPT12-EU, WA-JSPT12-UK.

Diodes of Ploom wall adaptor model WA-UN-06A.

The substance is used to improve the electrical conductivity, the corrosion resistance or thermal resistance and the manufacturability of the material, or to control the melting temperature of the solder inside the device.

Safe use information

1. No exposure to the substance is expected due to its inclusion within an alloy brass, solder or glass.

2. In accordance with the European WEEE Directive, the Ploom X and Ploom X Advanced devices and Ploom wall adaptors should not be disposed of with other household waste at the end of their working life. Please see WEEE instructions supplied with the product on correct disposal channels.

JTI reserves the right to update and modify this communication, as it believes necessary or appropriate. For more information about REACH, please access the HSE website:  https://www.hse.gov.uk/

Responsible disposal of your product

Please do not dispose of your Ploom device in your household waste at the end of its working life. It contains electronic and battery components and should be disposed of as electronic waste.  If electronic waste ends up in landfill, it can cause harm to the environment.

There are two ways you can dispose of your product:

1. You can recycle old electronics at your local household waste recycling centre.

2. Your local authority may offer a dedicated kerbside collection service. It is best to check with them to confirm or use the Waste Resources and Action Programme (WRAP) search tool.

There is no need to remove the battery from the device before you recycle it.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEE) aim to reduce the amount of waste deposited in landfill sites. Any electrical goods marked with the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol need to be disposed of separately from normal household waste.
